Fast forward to Nov. 17. The Bills are jockeying for AFC supremacy, engaged in an Arrowhead dogfight with the Chiefs. Erasing Buffalo’s sour memories from the 2021 playoffs, Josh Allen guides the Bills on a game-winning drive, a dramatic series punctuated with a spectacular touchdown pass to … Davante Adams.

Could it happen? According to ESPN’s Ben Solak, indeed it could.

“It seems like the Bills are out on the first round of the Adams trade cycle,” wrote Solak, who proposed the Bills give the Raiders a second-rounder in 2025 and third-rounder in 2026 for Adams and a 2025 sixth-round choice. “That is to say they don’t want to take on all of his cap hit, so they’d only be interested if and when the Raiders are willing to swallow some of Adams’ money in return for better draft capital.”

But here’s a timely question: Since Allen has never lost three consecutive starts, should Buffalo’s losing streak reach that dubious number with a big Monday night loss to the new-look Jets, would the Bills get back on the phone with Raiders general manager Tom Telesco?

Should that happen, Erich Richter of the New York Post points out that the difference-maker in Adams to the Bills could be the NFL’s current suspension of edge rusher Von Miller, whose gamechecks are suspended along with him. That could help Buffalo absorb Adams’ $1 million weekly salary in the short-term.

And assuming Buffalo can work out the financials, no question, Adams would fit with Allen like a cold beer alongside a tasty plate of wings at the Anchor Bar.

“If and when we get there,” Solak continued, “Adams is the perfect receiver for Buffalo. Khalil Shakir is the established slot, but a motley crew is currently splitting snaps at the outside. Rookie Keon Coleman has been flashing, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mack Hollins are not viable options for the high-volume passing attack that the Bills needed to deploy the past two weeks. Adams brings a lot of what Stefon Diggs brought — reliable separation against top corners, sure hands and downfield route running — on a clean slate.”

Solak added that his Bills-Raiders trade proposal would include conditions on that 2026 third-round selection, accounting for Adams’ playing time and Buffalo success.

And obviously if the Jets lose on Monday night, considering the organizational upheaval of the past week, don’t be surprised if Joe Douglas and new interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich re-open conversations with Telesco.

There’s more on the line Monday night than first place in the AFC East.
