The Raiders and Davante Adams appear to be taking their time addressing the All-Pro wide receiver’s recent trade request, and a team that was brought up this week as a possibility for Adams was the San Francisco 49ers.

On the Just Win podcast this week, The Athletic‘s Vic Tafur cited a report from a respected Bay Area insider on the 49ers’ potential willingness to trade Brandon Aiyuk.

“Mike Silver wrote at the San Francisco Chronicle that he thought the Aiyuk trade was still possible,” Tafur said. “I thought it wasn’t because they already paid Brandon Aiyuk and if they move him now it’s an $18 million cap hit, so that would be a lot of money. Plus, you’ve still got to pay Davante going forward, but clearly they are a team that in win now mode and have not had a problem in the past spending a lot of money.

“It’s seems like Aiyuk has not been happy,” Tafur continued. “For some reason he’s not been really playing well or happy. Shanahan and him had a little thing last week so maybe there’s a little buyer’s remorse there where they feel Davante is a better player. I think that’s still a long shot, but Mike knows his stuff and he wrote it yesterday. That would have been a great trade going back to camp.”

The biggest hurdle to a wide receiver swap between the Raiders and 49ers might be the Raiders’ stance on their wide receiver room.

Tre Tucker and D.J. Turner are young wide receivers that thrived last week with Adams out of the lineup, and it’s no secret that the Raiders are very high on Jakobi Meyers.

Ironically, the 49ers reportedly looked into a wide receiver trade with the Raiders several months ago, but Adams was not the player they were targeting. At the time, the 49ers were said to be interested in Meyers.

Ultimately, it might be in the Raiders’ best interest to stockpile draft picks for Adams as they currently look to be a team without a long-term answer at the quarterback position.
