Cross off the Pittsburgh Steelers from the list of 2025 Aaron Rodgers destinations. That’s according to ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck.
“I just think the reality for him is he’s not a fit personality-wise,” Hasselbeck said Tuesday morning on ESPN’s Get Up. “And I would say this: He’s 41 years old, guys. He’s 41 years old, two years removed from an Achilles’ injury. I don’t think he can move anymore. And I think it’s impacted the way that he’s played. I think it’s gotten him into some bad habits.”
One habit the Steelers don’t have is signing older quarterbacks. Ben Roethlisberger was 39 when he retired after the 2021 season. And if the Steelers re-sign Russell Wilson, Hasselbeck sees him as a better option than Rodgers.
“Just for some context,” Hasselbeck said, “Russell Wilson is five years younger than Rodgers and doesn’t have the injury history. So, look, Aaron Rodgers can play better than some of the 32 quarterbacks that are going to be playing in the NFL next year. But where Pittsburgh wants to go in the division that they’re in, I don’t think he’s really an upgrade over Russell Wilson.”
Wilson is expected to test the free-agent market, potentially winding up in Las Vegas. But where Rodgers continues his career is a fascinating storyline this offseason. Hasselbeck doesn’t expect that situation to come to light anytime soon, however. The best fit for Rodgers is to be determined.
“He’s not a high-priority free agent,” Hasselbeck said. “So, the dust is going to settle on guys like Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold, guys that are available. And then whatever is left ends up being the best fit. I think that’s what happens with Aaron Rodgers.”
