Prognosticators are proclaiming this the year of the tight end. According to NFL Network fantasy expert Michael F. Florio, the NFL leader at the position will come from the desert and the Arizona Cardinals. In fact, he should top Marvin Harrison on draft boards.
Trey McBride, Arizona’s third-year starter, is poised to produce in the Kyler Murray-Drew Petzing offense, Florio said.
“No tight end in football is going to score more points than Trey McBride,” Florio predicted. “I know it sounds like a hot take but last year with Kyler Murray he was the Tight End 1 in points per game and in target share.”
And of all the top tight ends from last season, Florio said, McBride recorded the fewest percentage of his fantasy points from touchdowns. Assuming a healthy Murray, Florio sees McBride as a top target and isn’t worried about the team’s No. 4 overall selection in the first round, Marvin Harrison.
The 55th overall selection in 2022 out of Colorado State, McBride has hauled in 110 of his 145 targets (75.9 percent) over his first two seasons, for 1,090 yards (9.9 yards per catch) and four touchdowns Murray, meanwhile, has played in just 19 of Arizona’s 34 games over McBride’s first two seasons but enters 2024 happy and healthy for an optimistic Cardinals club.
McBride’s story began on the Eastern plains of Colorado, where his two moms helped prepare him for the NFL.
Florio also said Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco will finish among the top four at his position in fantasy points.
“A three-down back on the best offense in football with Andy Reid,” Florio said. “It seems like a hot take now. Come January, I don’t think it will.”
