CeeDee Lamb, Brandon Aiyuk and Ja’Marr Chase might be in the NFL spotlight this week, but there’s another blip in Raider Nation approaching on that radar: Wide receiver Davante Adams.
Former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, after speaking with Adams, that he isn’t exactly thrilled.
“This one’s tough because me and Davante, we’ve talked, and I hate to do it because I don’t want to be the guy that’s, ‘Oh, D-Jax said this and said that.’ But at the end of the day, he isn’t happy. You go from Aaron Rodgers, then you come to the Las Vegas Raiders. And it just didn’t quite work out and so now I just don’t think he’s really that happy there.”
Adams and his new Raiders offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, both entered the league in 2014 with the Green Bay Packers. After two seasons (2014-15) as the Packers’ offensive quality control coach, Getsy served as Green Bay’s wide receivers coach (2016-17), quarterbacks coach (2019) and quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator (2020-21).
That relationship might be important in Adams’ future with the Raiders. The team has a pair of tough road trips to open the season, an AFC West battle against the Chargers (Sept. 8) and a cross-country trek to play the Baltimore Ravens (Sept. 15). And should the team struggle out of the gates, expect the Raiders’ phones to ring, not because of how Adams feels, but because of the three-time All-Pro’s contract.
Count insider Ari Meirov, who notes Adams has no guaranteed money after this season, in that school of thought.
“He is probably the one star player that if the team starts off poorly, we’re going to talk a lot about him in trade rumors,” Meirov said on the NFL Spotlight podcast.
