Snoop Huntley joined the Dolphins on Sept. 16, two weeks before making his first Miami start in their Monday night loss to the Titans. So, it’s understandable that the quarterback could misfire on two occasions when targeting the Dolphins’ most dangerous weapon, Tyreek Hill.
However, those off-target passes – one of which ended the Dolphins’ initial series and the other he overthrew on what would’ve been a 77-yard touchdown – raised interesting questions on Tuesday. Would the Dolphins (1-3), who have yet to spend a second of game-clock time with a lead this season, consider trading Hill back to Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes?
“Miami is that putrid; they were unwatchable tonight,” said former NFL scout John Middlekauff on the 3&Out Podcast. “And Tyreek Hill has such a unique skillset. Should the Kansas City Chiefs trade for him?”
Not so fast, my friend.
“Then I did a little digging,” Middlekauff continued, “talked to some birdies, and that is 100-percent not happening. The Chiefs aren’t going back down that road. That’s an ex. My first thought was, ‘Just plug and play; I bet he’d be sweet.’ He’s still really good.”
While quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is meeting with neurologists and taking all the time he needs to make an important decision, there are no timeouts in the NFL calendar. The trade deadline is Nov. 5 and several teams interested in Hill would fight for time on the iPhone of Miami general manager Chris Grier.
Could the Ravens, Bills or Cowboys be one of those teams?
“I do think Miami should trade him,” Middlekauff added. “Like, what the hell are you doing? They’re the worst team in the league. And how often do you trade a guy or trade for a guy who’s an all-time Hall of Fame player?”
What Middlekauff didn’t mention is that for the first time in recent memory, every NFL club currently owns its first-round selection in the draft. Looking ahead to the second round, only the Bears, Bills and Panthers enter 2025 with additional early-round capital acquired in prior trades. In other words, every team has a lot to offer the Dolphins for Hill. Plus, the Dolphins structured Hill’s current contract in a manner potentially attractive to other teams’ respective salary-cap situations.
The Raiders suddenly aren’t the only team that could be discussing the trade of a marquee wide receiver.
Meanwhile, the 2024 status of Kansas City’s Rashee Rice isn’t clear following his knee injury last week. But a former player gave the Chiefs an intriguing suggestion on Monday’s NFL Live: ESPN analyst Marcus Spears recommended the Jaguars contact the Chiefs regarding a potential trade for Christian Kirk.
