Like old Converse hightops, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams toasted old times on Sunday. Then, they toasted the Jaguars in the second half, leading the Jets to a 32-25 victory over the Jaguars.
Adams didn’t catch a pass over the first two quarters but exploded for 198 yards and two touchdowns on nine receptions as New York (4-10) snapped a four-game losing streak. While the Raiders can safely assume their conditional pick will be a third-rounder this spring, the Jets certainly got a single-game glimpse of what Rodgers and Adams could generate for a new coaching staff in 2025 – if they’re back.
For one day, though, the Jets could celebrate with Adams. He caught a gorgeous, 71-yard touchdown to give the Jets a 25-22 lead with 3:24 remaining. Then, he showed up again on New York’s game-winning drive, setting up a 1-yard, tie-breaking touchdown with just over a minute left.
Adams became the sixth player in NFL history with 100 receiving touchdowns in his first 11 seasons. Only four Hall of Famers — Jerry Rice (146), Randy Moss (135), Marvin Harrison (122) and Terrell Owens (114) – and Mike Evans (103) have done that.
“Historic, magical,” Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said. “To get his 100th TD … I feel honored to have seen it and to have been here for it. It was an amazing moment for those two guys. Obviously, a lot of ball between them and a lot of touchdowns. So, for them to get that was special.”
Vintage Rodgers-Adams didn’t happen without vintage halftime adjustments, especially after a disappointing first two quarters.
“It wasn’t working in the first half,” Adams told newyorkjets.com. “We really couldn’t figure it out. I had a drop over the middle there. We talked it over at halftime, and then we got a few opportunities and finally got to capitalize on them. It was a great way to finish.”
If the finish is near for Rodgers, he’ll go out with countless accomplishments. The latest of those feats came Sunday, when he registered his 159th career game with at least two touchdown passes, tying former teammate Brett Favre (159) for No. 4 on the NFL’s all-time list. Only Tom Brady (204), Drew Brees (173) and Peyton Manning (165) have more games with two-plus touchdown passes.
Jacksonville (3-11) is reeling. The Jaguars have double-digit losses for the 11th time in 14 seasons.
