Despite massive defensive injuries, the Lions’ formidable secondary is still intact. And when the Bears’ DJ Moore lines up against Terrion Arnold, Brian Branch & Co. on Sunday, Detroit now has added motivation to put the Bears out of their misery.
Asked Thursday about the offseason and the steps Chicago (4-10) can take to improve next year, Moore said this: “What I’m thinking about? Vacation.”
The Lions (12-2) are thinking about Super Bowl and, entering this week’s contest (1 p.m. ET, FOX), they’re in a three-way war for NFC supremacy. The Bears, meanwhile, are in a nine-way battle of attrition for the No. 1 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Moore, who signed a four-year, $110 million contract prior to the 2024 season, isn’t scheduled to hit free agency until 2030.
“It’s embarrassing,” said Chicago native Danny Parkins on FS1’s Breakfast Ball Friday morning. “I know embarrassing. It’s an embarrassing thing to say. They gave him a massive contract, he’s a part of the core of this team and he’s a great player…historically, he’s been a consummate professional. They’re packing it in. That’s what they’re doing. I expect the Lions to win this game comfortably.”
Moore appeared to make the vacation comment in jest, understandably showing a need to recharge and reset ahead of a future hopefully with more Midway sunshine than this season. But this season still has three games.
Since the Bears acquired Moore from Carolina in a deal involving the No. 1 selection in the 2023 draft, the wide receiver has had four quarterbacks, two head coaches and three play-callers. In those two years with the Bears, he’s tallied 2,122 yards and 13 touchdowns on 172 receptions.
