The Bills and Jets weren’t done battling when the clock hit zeroes on Monday night. Each AFC East club traded for a Pro Bowl wide receiver on Tuesday. Buffalo landed five-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper on Tuesday afternoon, hours after New York acquired All-Pro Davante Adams. Browns general manager Andrew Berry broke the news to Cooper, the player told insider Josina Anderson.
Cooper has lost both career meetings with Allen, once with the Cowboys and another with the Browns. The receiver told Anderson he’s ecstatic to now be on Allen’s team.
“As far as playing with Josh, I’ve always been a fan of his game,” said Cooper, who could become one of 10 players ever to catch a postseason pass with four teams. “I’m sure to see it up close and personal and play alongside him, I’m sure it’s going to be great.
“I’ve been in this situation before, so that helps. I’m just excited to turn a new chapter and to be able to contribute.”
He’s been in this situation two times before, traded from Dallas to Cleveland in March of 2022 and from the Raiders to the Cowboys six years ago this week, Oct. 22, 2018. The Raiders selected Cooper fourth overall in the first round of the 2015 draft.
Cooper was rumored unhappy with the play of quarterback Deshaun Watson and wanted a change of scenery since before the season, according to some.
Cooper started all six games this season for Cleveland (1-5), posting 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Now in his 10th NFL season, Cooper has 292 career receptions for 9,736 yards and 62 touchdowns in 146 games.
