From kickoff to the parking lot, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones had a rough day last week. Sacked five times, Jones threw two interceptions in 28-6 loss to Minnesota. A timely wrinkle in the NFL schedule might be just the remedy the Giants need.
New York’s trip down I-95 to Washington has been an annual get-right game for Jones and the Giants. For that reason, fantasy owners, senior ESPN.com writer Dan Graziano has some advice.
“Don’t be afraid to run Giants receiver Malik Nabers right back out there for Week 2 against the Commanders,” Graziano wrote Thursday. “Washington’s defense gave up 392 yards and four touchdown passes to the Bucs in Week 1, and I don’t think things will get any better for the Commanders’ secondary any time soon.”
Jones is 5-1-1 in seven career starts against Washington. Compare that to his 22-38-1 overall mark since the Giants drafted him sixth overall in 2019. In seven career games against his NFC East rival, Jones has 10 touchdown passes and three interceptions. His touchdown-to-interception ratio in all other games is 52-39. When the Giants kick off against the Commanders on Sunday (1 p.m. ET, FOX), expect good things from Jones and Nabers.
“If there’s ever a week to expect Daniel Jones to play well, it’s Commanders week,” Graziano wrote.
Jones in four career road starts at Washington is 3-1. His only loss came nearly three years to the date of Sunday’s game, in 2021, when Jones passed for 249 yards with a touchdown. He also ran for 95 yards with a rushing touchdown that day.
