NFL quarterbacks are pre-screened for thick skin before they enter the draft, but in New York, that prerequisite is even more important.
Take, for example, the hecklers who waited for quarterback Daniel Jones to leave MetLife Stadium following Sunday’s season-opening, 28-6 loss to the Vikings. Fans shouted, “I need a million, Daniel,” as captured by Alex Wilson of Empire Sports Media.
The treatment crossed a line in the eyes of Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who signed as free agent this offseason.
“Today didn’t go as expected I get it, but this is WACK AF,” Eluemunor posted on X, quote tweeting Wilson’s post. “As someone who’s dealt with and still fights depression and confidence issues this needs to stop. It’s okay be upset as a fan but to come to the player entrance and act this way is inhumane. We will be better, this needs to be better also.”
The Giants, celebrating their 100th season with Commissioner Roger Goodell in attendance, couldn’t find an effective offensive rhythm. Minnesota sacked Jones five times and intercepted him twice.
New York (0-1) travels to Washington (0-1) for a Sunday clash with its NFC East rival (1 p.m. ET, FOX).
