Quarterback Jordan Love signed the most lucrative quarterback contract in league history and many think the Green Bay Packers will lead the NFL in offense.
But when they board their 12-hour flight to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they open their season Sept. 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, they might not have a kicker.
After a painful preseason in that department, the team has released kicker Anders Carlson, ESPN.com beat writer Rob Demovsky confirmed.
Every year, at least one NFL team enters the first week of regular-season preparations without a kicker or punter on its 53-man roster. What makes the Packers’ situation unique is the long trip to play in the NFL’s first game in South America, and a playing surface at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo on which NFL kickers have never played.
It’s certainly a situation to watch.
