After a collective sigh of relief when Aaron Rodgers takes his fifth snap in the Monday Night Football opener at San Francisco Sept. 9, most will see that the New York Jets have built an impressive offense.
That offense got a boost Tuesday when head coach Robert Saleh announced wide receiver Mike Williams had returned to catching Rodgers passes in team drills. Williams, who signed with New York after a Week 3 torn ACL ended his 2023 season and seven-year tenure with the Chargers, is a mouth-watering threat to stretch the field.
Since 2019, Williams has averaged 15.9 yards per reception. With a minimum of 300 targets, that’s the highest mark in the NFL over that period, better than A.J. Brown (15.7) and Mike Evans (15.2). Last season, the Jets ranked 31st in that category. A healthy Williams paired with third-year receiver Garrett Wilson is a formidable duo.
Another formidable duo sits in the Jets’ backfield, where New York will deploy a healthy Breece Hall along with rookie Braelon Allen. Doug Clawson of CBS Sports said Tuesday that Hall is the first player since Saquon Barkley to average at least 60 rushing yards and 30 receiving yards per game through his first two NFL seasons. In addition to Rodgers and his four snaps, the Jets quarterbacks during Hall’s games were Tim Boyle, Joe Flacco Trevor Siemian and Zach Wilson.
