ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky said on Eric Wood’s Centered on Buffalo podcast Thursday that turnovers are attached to Josh Allen’s game but Orlovsky doesn’t buy into the negative narrative that the Buffalo quarterback has a turnover issue.
“Josh is going to turn the football over, yes,” Orlovsky said. “One, he’s an ultra-aggressive athlete. Two, he’s unbelievably physically talented so he’s constantly going to try to make difficult throws or difficult plays. And three, when you’re a high-level talent, the ball’s going to be in harm’s way more often than it is when you’re not a high-level talent.”
Allen, who has led the Bills to the postseason in five of his six NFL seasons, has 102 turnovers since entering the league in 2018, more than any player in that span. But Orlovsky said context is important.
“It’s not the turnovers that matter,” Orlovsky said. “It’s where they happen and the subsequent impact of those turnovers.”
Last season, Buffalo’s defense allowed 2.65 points off Bills giveaways, 16th in the league. In 2022, that number was 2.07, sixth-lowest in the NFL.
“Turnovers are there,” Orlovsky said.” I just don’t think it’s an issue that’s negatively hampering his performance or the team’s.”
