Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton refers to his three quarterbacks as orphan dogs. Payton seemed to imply at Monday’s press conference that the Broncos have room in their house to adopt all three entering the season.
Zach Wilson turned in a strong final exam in Saturday’s preseason win, likely earning a passing grade. Prior to that game, Denver announced Bo Nix had earned the starting role. Meanwhile, Jarrett Stidham could open as the team’s backup quarterback when the Broncos open at Seattle Sept. 8.
“We feel comfortable with those three quarterbacks,” Payton said. “I think I’ve you already, but I see the three of them making it.”
If Denver is indeed a team that keeps three quarterbacks, the Broncos won’t have as much flexibility getting a third quarterback into a game in an emergency situation, per ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.
