Assuming the Saints don’t trade him this week with the money he’s due in March, Derek Carr could return to the New Orleans starting lineup on Sunday. That’s a good sign, general manager Mickey Loomis said on WWL Radio Tuesday night. What’s not a good sign, however, is the Saints’ six-game losing streak.

“Whenever you have results that don’t match your expectations, you have to look at the underlying reasons why,” Loomis said Tuesday on The Saints Hour, courtesy of beat writer Nick Underhill. “Look, we have answers for lots of things. We have answers when we have players get hurt. We have answers when you lose your quarterback for a couple games.

“I don’t know that I have answers when you have an avalanche of injuries and you lose your quarterback for that period of time. That’s just difficult and we haven’t been able to overcome that, and we played some good teams, too, as well.”

All of those teams are good, actually. The six opponents to beat the Saints during the six-game slide have a combined 30-15 record (.667) and none of them enter this week with a losing record. When New Orleans (2-6) visits Carolina (1-7) on Sunday (1 p.m. ET, CBS), the Saints have an opportunity to right their ship.
