No extension? No problem. That’s how one NFL executive feels about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys entering the season Sunday without a new contract for starting quarterback Dak Prescott.
“He’s going to have an (bleep)-you season, shut every up and win an MVP,” the source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
That season begins with Dallas playing the marquee game on the NFL’s Sunday afternoon slate, at Cleveland (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX).
“Well, it’s going to be really tough to start that bleep-you season across from Myles Garrett,“ said Bart Scott on ESPN’s ‘s Get Up Wednesday morning. “He’s going to be saying ‘bleep you’ to anyone they put in there to try to block him.”
The lucky Cowboys left tackle trying to block Garrett, the reigning Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year, is rookie first-round selection Tyler Guyton.
Yes, the Cowboys did lock up wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, a critical part of any success they’ll have this season. But they also have two 29-year-old running backs, having re-signed Ezekiel Elliott and adding Dalvin Cook to their practice squad.
“They have the best running-back room in the league … in 2018,” said Mike Greenberg Wednesday.
Jeff Saturday agreed.
“That’s a concern for me because if you’re going to take pressure off Dak, it’s through the run game. And now, it’s like you’re putting more pressure on Dak — and thank God they got CeeDee’s deal done – you’re putting all the pressure on Dak to go make these plays.”
With four days before kickoff, none of the three Dallas quarterbacks are under contract for 2025, including backups Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, coming off a five-interception preseason finale. Neither is head coach Mike McCarthy.
