San Francisco 49ers: The club has removed first-year defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen from his role. Beat writer Nick Wagoner reports the 49ers hope to retain him in another role, though that position is uncertain. San Francisco will employ a third defensive coordinator in as many seasons after moving on from Steve Wilks last February.

Chicago Bears: Former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will interview with the Bears on Thursday, according to Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler. Carroll would be an ideal candidate in Chicago.

Mike McCarthy: Per Adam Schefter, after waiting more than 24 hours to respond to the Bears’ request to interview head coach Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys on Tuesday night denied Chicago permission. The Cowboys’ exclusive negotiating window with McCarthy expires on Jan. 14.

New England Patriots: The team has scheduled a head-coach interview with Mike Vrabel for Thursday, per Ian Rapoport.

Las Vegas Raiders: The team has retained general manager Tom Telesco but fired head coach Antonio Pierce. The Raiders represent the NFL’s sixth current head-coach vacancy. Beat writer Vic Tafur reports principal owner Mark Davis sought advisory input from several stakeholders, including new minority owner Tom Brady.

Las Vegas Raiders: Per sources, beat writer Tashan Reed says owner Mark Davis is still deliberating the futures of head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco.

New York Jets: Beat writer Nick Underhill reports that the Jets have requested a head-coach interview with Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi. Rizzi graduated from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J.

Philadelphia Eagles: Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio says he does not want to leave Philadelphia for a head-coach opportunity; the former Broncos head coach says “I’m happy to be here right now.”

New England Patriots: The Patriots on Wednesday interviewed longtime NFL assistant Pep Hamilton for their head-coach role; Tom Pelissero says Hamilton has a history of working with talented quarterbacks, including New England’s Joe Milton…Former Cardinals and Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is interviewing on Tuesday for the head-coach role in New England, Mike Jones reports. A quarterback for four teams, he played in the NFL from 2003-12. Leftwich was a finalist in the Jaguars’ head-coach search that went to Doug Pederson in 2022.

Chicago Bears: General manager Ryan Poles said the Bears are open to draft-pick compensation in exchange for any head coach currently at the helm of an NFL team…The Bears have added Bills OC Joe Brady to their list of requests for head-coach interviews. Kalyn Kahler says Brady and Caleb Williams have a relationship going back to the summer of 2013 at a William & Mary football camp.

Cincinnati Bengals: Cincinnati plans to interview Demarcus Covington for its vacant DC role on Wednesday; Covington spent last season as the DC in New England and has permission to speak to other teams…Tom Pelissero reports the Bengals are interviewing Patrick Graham for defensive coordinator on Tuesday. The Raiders’ DC over the past three seasons, Graham has an expired contract. Prior to Las Vegas, Graham was the DC with both the Giants and Dolphins. He’s also a head-coach candidate in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville Jaguars: The team has released its initial list of head-coach interview requests: Kellen Moore, Todd Monken, Joe Brady, Liam Coen, Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, Patrick Graham and Robert Saleh. Saleh was a Jaguars assistant from 2014-16. Glenn played for the Jags in 2007.

New York Jets: The team submitted a GM interview request for Bills assistant GM Brian Gaine. Gaine is a former GM of the Texans and served as a Jets scout while Bill Parcells was head coach.

Tennessee Titans: The team with the No. 1 overall selection has fired general manager Ran Carthon less than four months ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Hired in 2023 and promoted to executive vice president prior to the ’24 campaign, Carthon hired head coach Brian Callahan last season. President of football operations Chad Brinker will now lead the search for the next GM to pair with Callahan (Brinker also will have final authority over all football matters, including the power to break ties on roster decisions). Carthon’s head coach in his first season with the Titans was Mike Vrabel. Tennessee was 9-25 over the past two years.

New York Jets: The team is expected to interview Packers VP of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan for its GM role, Ian Rapoport says. ProFootballPost wrote about Sullivan and the Jets in November.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Liam Coen, Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator, has been requested to interview with the Jaguars; Coen wouldn’t interview until next week, per league rules, because his team is playing this week…The team also has requested permission to interview Lions OC Ben Johnson, who reportedly had interest in Jacksonville prior to the end of the regular season.

New York Jets: Per beat writer Rich Cimini, Rex Ryan interviews for his former job with the Jets in Palm Beach, Fla., on Tuesday, nearly 16 years to the date of his first interview — when Woody Johnson and Mike Tannenbaum also were present.

Aaron Glenn: During Detroit’s bye week after clinching the NFC’s No. 1 seed, the Lions’ defensive coordinate will concentrate his virtual head-coach interviews later this week, Ian Rapoport says. He has scheduled interviews with the Jets, Saints, Bears and Jaguars. … Per Josina Anderson, the Saints interview is scheduled for Friday. The others are expected Thursday.

New Orleans Saints: Albert Breer reports the Saints have touched base with Mike Vrabel to work out timing on an interview. Vrabel is no longer under contract with the Browns.

Chicago Bears: Mike Vrabel will interview for the team’s head-coach position on Wednesday. Ian Rapoport says while many assume Vrabel will land in New England, this is a sign Vrabel is committed to speaking to several teams.

New York Jets: Albert Breer reports the team will interview Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi Wednesday in Palm Beach, Fla. Additionally, the Jets also will interview Chiefs OC Matt Nagy remotely on Wednesday for head coach.

San Francisco 49ers: Beat writer Nick Wagoner reports that Kyle Shanahan has fired special teams coordinator Brian Schneider.
