San Francisco 49ers: The team announced it has completed an interview with Detroit’s Jett Modkins for its vacancy at special teams coordinator. Modkins is assistant special teams coach on Dan Campbell’s staff.

Chicago Bears: The team announced it has completed a head-coach interview with former Bears player and defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

New York Jets: Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan is no longer a candidate to return in that role, SNY insider Connor Hughes said Sunday morning.

Tennessee Titans: The team announced a completed GM interview with Mike Borgonzi.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Quoting team sources, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Steelers are not planning any move involving Mike Tomlin. He will return in 2025.

Las Vegas Raiders: Deion Sanders reportedly has strong interest in the Raiders, but according to The Athletic, the Raiders have zero interest in Sanders. Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed believe Sanders is using the team as leverage should another job open in coming days.

Chicago Bears: Tom Pelissero says the Bears want to interview Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, 39, for Chicago’s HC opening. Chicago has done extensive research on Freeman, who is preparing the Fighting Irish for the Jan. 20 national championship game against Ohio State.

New England Patriots: Charles Robinson reports that Ryan Cowden, the Giants’ executive advisor to the GM, is expected to join the Patriots’ front office. Cowden and Mike Vrabel were together in Tennessee.

Aaron Glenn: Jonathan Jones reports that the Lions’ DC crushed all five virtual interviews this week. Sources tell Jones that Glenn’s choice will likely come down to the Jets and Saints, both of whom are expected to fly to Detroit to meet with Glenn this upcoming week.

Chicago Bears: Ian Rapoport says the Bears are expected to schedule interviews this week with Ravens OC Todd Monken, Vikings DC Brian Flores and Steelers OC Arthur Smith.

Las Vegas Raiders: Tom Pelissero reports that the Raiders never formally pursued Mike Vrabel because Vrabel “essentially told Tom Brady, ‘I’m going to end up going back to New England.'”

New York Giants: Mike Garafolo says Giants defensive coordinator Shane Bowen could be a target of Mike Vrabel in New England but, as of now, Garafolo believes Brian Daboll is moving forward with Bowen in New York.

New England Patriots: Mike Vrabel and the Patriots have agreed on a multi-year contract to make the team’s former linebacker its next head coach.

Tennessee Titans: The team announced it has completed a GM interview with Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham.

Chicago Bears: Former Bears tackle Kyle Long predicts that Ben Johnson will rip the hearts out of Chicago fans by landing in Jacksonville, provided he’s in alignment with team ownership and GM Trent Baalke.

Kliff Kingsbury: Should he choose following Washington’s wild-card game Sunday night, the Commanders’ OC is able to interview with the teams that have so far requested him, Chicago and Washington. Ian Rapoport notes one interesting topic of discussion for his Bears interview, the fact that Chicago chose not to hire him as OC last year.

Tennessee Titans: The Titans announced they’ve completed GM interviews with Browns assistant GM Catherine Hickman and Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray.

New England Patriots: Beat writer Nicole Yang reports the team has engaged in active negations to sign Mike Vrabel as its next head coach.

Chicago Bears: Chicago announced it has completed a HC interview with Aaron Glenn.

Jacksonville Jaguars: The team announced it has completed a HC interview with Ben Johnson.

New England Patriots: Josh McDaniels is potentially the offensive coordinator on a future Mike Vrabel coaching staff, Jonathan Jones reports. Out of football since the Raiders fired him as head coach during the ’23 season, McDaniels would begin a third stint in New England (2001-08 and 2012-21). McDaniels was announced as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts two days after New England lost Super Bowl LII following the 2017 season but withdrew from the role to remain in New England.

Las Vegas Raiders: Per beat writer Vinny Bonsignore, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has used industry backchannels to express interest in returning to the NFL, specifically the Raiders. He might be too late. Ian Rapoport says Tom Brady spent an hour on the phone with the agent of Ben Johnson, recruiting the Lions’ OC to Las Vegas.

Atlanta Falcons: Atlanta has fired defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers, per Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. Atlanta ranked 23rd in total defense this season.

Indianapolis Colts: Ephraim Banda, Cleveland safeties coach, has interviewed for the Indianapolis defensive-coordinator role, Tom Pelissero says.

Cincinnati Bengals: Jeremy Fowler reports the Bengals are expected to interview former Bears HC Matt Eberflus for the Bengals’ defensive-coordinator vacancy.

New York Jets: The Jets have completed a GM interview with Darren Mougey, Broncos assistant GM…Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi will interview virtually for the Jets’ head-coach role on Saturday, Peter Schrager reports. Other Jets GM interviews on Saturday include Lance Newmark (Washington assistant GM), Trey Brown (Cincinnati senior personnel director), Chris Spielman (Detroit special assistant to president & CEO) and Ryan Grigson (Minnesota SVP of player personnel).

Las Vegas Raiders: The team will interview former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on Monday.

Chicago Bears: The team has announced a completed head-coach interview with Lions OC Ben Johnson.

Jacksonville Jaguars: The club completed a virtual interview with Lions DC Aaron Glenn.

Tennessee Titans: The Titans announced completed GM interviews with Seahawks senior director of player personnel Matt Berry and Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds.

Dallas Cowboys: Adam Schefter says on NFL Countdown that despite substantial football conversations between Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy, there haven’t been substantial contract conversations. The longer this goes on, Schefter says, the more doubtful the situation becomes for the two to move forward together. The Cowboys’ exclusive negotiating window with McCarthy expires Tuesday.

Chicago Bears: Jonathan Jones reports that Ron Rivera, who played for the ’85 Bears and served as DC on their Super Bowl XLI team, will interview this weekend for Chicago’s head-coach opening.

New York Jets: Jeff Howe from The Athletic polls several assistant coaches and determines that the Jets tie with the Raiders for the least-desirable head-coach vacancy. Should the Cowboys not retain Mike McCarthy, Dallas would be considered the best, Howe’s survey reveals. The Jaguars and Patriots ranked No. 2 and 3, respectively.

Las Vegas Raiders: Tom Brady is giving the Raiders an opportunity to interview candidates such as Ben Johnson that they normally wouldn’t be able to attract, Dianna Russini reports. Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport says the Raiders are the team to watch with regard to Johnson. Las Vegas is enamored with Johnson and would wait for him to finish the postseason with Detroit, Rapoport notes. … Finally, Raiders beat writer Vinny Bonsignore says momentum is building for Pete Carroll as the name to watch in the Las Vegas search.

New England Patriots: Dianna Russini says the team could resolve its head-coach search as early as this weekend.
